Tier 2 Restricted open-weight
What the publisher claims: open-weight, open-source
The one-liner: Open video weights whose license does not apply in three of the largest markets.
The six questions
Weights and code are downloadable from the publisher's GitHub and Hugging Face presence, subject to the license conditions.
A custom community license with a territorial carve-out that withdraws the grant in the EU, UK, and South Korea, plus scale-based extra commercial terms.
Self-hosting is technically straightforward and training scripts are published, but the territorial clause means the grant does not cover deployments in three major markets.
Model cards and reports describe architecture and benchmarks; the training corpus and recipe are not published.
Limited.
Tencent's HunyuanVideo repositories are public and take the occasional outside pull request, but the training data, pipeline, and release schedule are set entirely by Tencent.
License
Tencent Hunyuan Community License — license source ↗
- The license does not apply in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or South Korea, and is expressly limited to a Territory that excludes them
- Additional commercial terms kick in for licensees with more than 100 million monthly active users
- A separate Acceptable Use Policy is incorporated as Exhibit A
What is actually released
- weights
- inference and training code
- model cards
Why it matters
Territory clauses are the least discussed form of restriction: a licence can be free and open everywhere except where the publisher decides it should not be.
